The Organization

Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant and growing non-profit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre in downtown Raleigh with over 550,000 annual visitors. Since opening as Marbles in September 2007, our popularity and community support has increased steadily. Now at our three-year mark, Marbles seeks a dynamic senior management professional to move our financial, human resources and general business practices to a new level of performance in line with our institutional goals and community impact.

Job Purpose:

The Vice President of Finance and Human Resources directs all financial, human resources and risk management activities of the organization, while providing administrative and analytical support to enable other staff members and the Board of Directors to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Fiscal Planning, Policy and Procedures

  • Oversee the production, administration and reporting of the organization’s annual budget;
  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems and procedures that enable the generation of accurate and meaningful reports on financial operations to satisfy the needs of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Oversee policies, procedures and programs for cash management, investments, and employee benefits;
  • Maintain a system of internal controls to protect the assets of the organization;
  • Coordinate and prepare long range financial plans consistent with the organization’s strategic plan.

Financial Management

  • Prepare regular financial reports and presentations for the Board of Directors and staff;
  • Work with the Finance Committee and President to monitor and evaluate cash flow, investments and key performance indicators;
  • Organize, supervise and direct work of finance team members, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, bank reconciliations and general ledger, through ongoing support, training and evaluation;
  • Work with operations and guest services staff to coordinate sales, inventory and ticketing technology, and the day-to-day cash management and handling thereof;
  • Oversee interactions with outside auditing firm, financial institutions, legal, and other professional advisors to ensure protection of organization assets and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including management of the year-end audit;
  • Support development staff in grant and funding applications and reporting, tax and legal issues of fundraising efforts and accounts receivable support

Human Resources

  • Direct and support human resources activities to maximize the organization’s growth and achievement through its human capital and organizational culture;
  • Develop and maintain innovative strategies for recruitment and retention, personnel development, performance management and mission-based training;
  • Oversee the design and development of compensation strategy and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and competitive salary levels;
  • Direct the administration of benefit programs and evaluate and recommend improvements in conjunction with the Personnel Committee of the board;
  • Oversee coordination and implementation of grievances and mediate workplace disputes;
  • Evaluate procedures and technology solutions to improve human resources data management;
  • Supervise payroll and personnel administration:
    • Direct reporting of monthly payroll to outside payroll service,
    • Coordinate retirement benefit planning, proposals, and evaluation,
    • Implement and administer retirement benefits plans including compliance with all government regulations and reporting,
    • Ensure compliance with all laws relative to personnel and administration.

Qualifications and Special Skills:

  • Four-year accounting degree and demonstrated knowledge of life-cycle accounting functions and generally accepted accounting principles; CPA preferred
  • Significant small business or non-profit experience in finance, human resources and general business administration;
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of budget administration and accountability, purchasing, receiving, inventory, risk management and financial reporting for boards and/or governmental agencies;
  • Proficiency in technology, particularly in relation to financial and administrative functions;
  • Proven team leader with ability to work effectively with staff, board members, and outside professional contacts;
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely to nonfinancial audiences;
  • Adaptable and eager to support the needs of a dynamic and creative work environment.

Target compensation for the Vice President of Finance and Human Resources is an annual salary of $75,000 plus a strong benefits package, contingent on qualifications and experience.
